On reading

I LOVE to read.  I LOVE novels, fiction, non-fiction, whatever.  I truly enjoy immersing myself in a book but for some reason I have gotten away from it.  I don't know why.  The last book I purchased I read cover to cover in a matter of hours during a layover and flight with a two year old, so I know it's not something I've "outgrown", I just don't know where to start, or what book I want to read.  I get overwhelmed in a bookstore because the covers are so pretty and flashy and I can't make up my mind.  I'm underwhelmed in a library because it's just titles and authors showing, so unless I know what I want, I can't settle on something and be happy.  Something about my personality and always wondering if I'm choosing the BEST book for my time.  Yeah, I know...weirdo.

I'm not a rereader of books either, some classics I can, or if it's been YEARS since I read it but I get bored because I know what's going to happen next.

I want a Kindle (or nook) because all the cool kids have them but I can't justify getting one if I read one or two books a year.  So, I'm going to set a goal and I need book recommendations.  If I read an average of two books a month for the next 12 months I'm going to ask for a Kindle (or nook) for my birthday.

I'll be browsing Candace's book club choices but what do YOU recommend?

I recommend all of my book club's choices. lol :) Also, if you go to my Book Blog there are A LOT of great books reviewed there. That's where my book club operated out of all of last year and we all posted pretty much everything we read there.

I recommend The Apothecary's Daughter. I am starting The Help now and really like it. I am trying to get back into reading again too!

I am the same way in the library. There are lots of sites out there that will recommend books based on other books you loved though.

I have a hard time "committing" to a book anymore... and then I never get into them.

I highly recommend "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" trilogy. But they're REALLY long, like 600 pages each. I love most anything by Jodi Piccoult (for serious dramatic stuff), Carl Hiasson (for silly funny stuff), Jennifer Weiner (for chick lit), and Lisa Scottoline (for lawyer, John Grisham type stuff).

Good luck with the reading goal. And BTW, my husband has a Kindle and swears he doesn't know how he ever lived without it. You know you can read newspapers and magazines on it too. :)

Have a great weekend!

I use swagbucks and mypoints and between the two, got my Kindle for free. I also post free books on my blog and facebook page. So far, I have only paid for one book and that is because the Soldier wanted it!

Happy Friday :)

You know I love to read almost anything. Right now I am really enjoying the light reading Joanna Fluke, Hannah Swenson Mysteries. I will get back into more serious reads soon.
